Horizons in Nature - a group exhibition

Inspired by the nature that surrounds us in the archipelago of Madeira, RESTOCK has invited a variety of local artists to participate in an exhibition based on this theme and, thus, title for the exhibition. The artists exhibiting in the exhibition are: David Fransisco Helena Jardim Jose Zyberchema Karen Bradtke Lize-Mari de Abreu Luis Filipe Vasconcelos Miguel Ângelo Martins Miguel Leitão Jardim The horizon is the apparent line where Earth’s surface and the sky seem to meet, most obvious over the sea or a flat plain. [Wikipedia] There are true/geographic horizons, visible horizons, and artistic/photographic horizon lines. There are also symbolic horizons where the horizon symbolises calm, reflection, openness, etc. and metaphors for the future, new beginnings, etc. Also one could contemplate representing concepts of emptiness and negative space as in Anish Kapoor’s void sculptural works.

“Treasured” is the past tense of treasure, which means to take great care of something because you love it or consider it very valuable. “This time, instead of my usual watercolours, I created these works using gel pen on washi paper. I am inspired by ordinary moments and objects in daily life—things that may seem unremarkable at first glance, but upon closer look, reveal a sparkling beauty like hidden treasures. O Sonhador | The Dreamer 4 July - 12 August 2025

We want to honour a great artist and dear friend, Pascal Oliveira, who is known as Pascal Errante, who passed away all too soon in April. The exhibition will present larger works from his atelier along with collected art books and more that span a lifetime. At times we sit at the gallery and think that Pascal will stop by soon and present us with his latest works and then suddenly realize that that will never happen again. "Fragmentos" a group exhibition of collage and assemblage

RESTOCK organizes an exhibition in conjunction with Madeira's 1st Biennial of Art and Design (BAD) and the group exhibition is using collage/assemblage as a medium and with the associated theme: Ecosystems of Design. RESTOCK chose this medium because the artists can incorporate a used product to create a new work of art. They will not be producing waste, but using it to produce something new. The participating artists are: Hanamaro Chaki, Jose Zyberchema, Jelka Baras, Unthink, Fatima Spinola, Miguel Angelo Martin, Martinho Mendes, and Karen Bradtke

Fade - an exhibition by Hanamaro Chaki Opening 21 February at 18h00

This series represents the personal inner landscapes of Hanamaro. The struggle of trying to become something. The confusion of not knowing who one truly is. The quest for proof of one's existence. The anxiety of not belonging. What is the self? And ultimately, the liberation from the past, old thoughts, and expectations. It reflects on how memories, both those we wish to forget and those we want to hold onto, inevitably fade over time. In the end, there is only the present moment before us, it highlights the realisation that one's place is solely in the here and now.

MisPlacing - an exhibition of mixed media works by Hanamaro Chaki Opening on 21 February at 18h00

MisPlacing is a multi-disciplinary art project presented in 2024 by Hanamaro Chaki and Margarida Menezes. This innovative collaboration spans video art projection, performance, exhibitions, and public space interventions (site-specific). Margarida directed the video art, choreography, performance, and stage lighting design, while Hanamaro designed the costumes and the pictures which you can view at this exhibition at RESTOCK gallery. The narrative, rooted in Hanamaro's original story and interpreted by Margarida, follows two creatures out of context: a rare bird with a broken wing from the sky, and another from the sea. As they navigate their unfamiliar surroundings, they try to adapt to new spaces and people who show curiosity and hospitality, but sometimes also feel nervous with the unknown. Ultimately, the two creatures find solace in each other's shared sense of being different—a feeling that can be experienced even in their native land, yet they could also feel at home elsewhere. This exhibition offers an intimate glimpse into the author's delicate emotions, portraying a spectrum of feelings from sorrow and darkness to hope and optimism for life.
