“Quatro Voos No Tempo” 16 de novembro ate 19 de janeiro

“Quatro Voos No Tempo”

Uma exposição coletiva de quatro artistas locais | a group exhibition of four local artists:

Sílvia Marta, Alzira Maltez, Lúcia Maria Francisco, and Magda Nunes

16 November – 19 January

Alzira Maltez

Four paths traced in which beliefs and memories marked the lives of four people differently. In common they have the time, or the lack of it.

A walk to faith, or will it be seeds of faith that lead one to believe that there is something beyond what we see? A world and an invisible time of molecules, of cells.

Another path is more detailed, which invades the search for childhood memories, from the realization of the dowry to fragments of nature's candor, a constant swirl of transmutation of emotions.

And how about entering now a time travel and carrying a chest full of good things? It is a journey without return. What if this time is the time of a life, the way home? And now that she has finally arrived home, as an adult, she wants to re-compartmentalize. It has many chests where it holds everything, landscapes, the sunset, emotions, even the cat and the smells!

But there is also the path that leads us to the cycle of life. The time that is cyclical, the rising and the rebirth. In the background we are all attached to time, to roots, to family. Some are bound by will, others by necessity, but we need to close cycles.

"It's Just a Thought" by Bettina Charlotte Radatz 14 July - 15 September 2018

Bettina Charlotte Radatz
It's Just a Thought

An Exhibition of Paintings, Ceramics and Sculpture

"The Whale's Dream"
Ceramic tile on mdf

An exhibition of paintings by this German-born Madeira-based artist. Her art has turned more into the abstract and sometimes metaphysical. Her special ability is intuitive painting in a gestural expressive way.

Bettina Charlotte’s career as an artist began after a long life of exploration. Although she has traveled around geographically too, Berlin/ Germany had been her base for 54 years – in 2013 this has changed as she decided to move to the Portuguese island of Madeira.

Before starting her artistic career Bettina Charlotte has explored different professions: she travelled the world as flight attendant for Lufthansa, she learned to be and worked as professional photographer, studied adult education and worked with adults for many years, was self employed and worked as systemic life coach in Berlin, Germany – these professions have given her a wide horizon of different elements of life. Because of her constant drive to be creative, art has always accompanied her during times of other professions and in 2013 she finally decided to work as full time artist when she moved to the island of Madeira to be part of the local artist community.

Perhaps because of all this together–getting to know so many earthly professions–her art has turned more into the abstract and sometimes metaphysical. Her special ability is intuitive painting in a gestural expressive way – she calls it “The Art to Listen to Your Heart” which she also teaches in workshops in Berlin/ Germany and Funchal, Madeira.

Kyo Sampo by Kazumi Taketomo Loja 04

Kyo Sampo
an exhibition by Kazumi Taketomo

“Kyo” has double meaning of Kyou of Kyoto and Kyou今日of today
“Sampo” is a stroll, a walk

I was born and still live in Kyoto where you find lots of historical temples and shrines. Many tourists from Japan and from overseas visit all the time. However my favourite places are the alleyways more than the main streets. I prefer to hang round where the locals go than to the tourist spots. I prefer weekdays to weekends or holidays. I like more ordinary life than formal events.

I always wander about in Kyoto, looking for my “favourites”, in other words, my adorable places, time, things, people, and the atmosphere. I pop into old local cafés, which the aged owner opens for his regular customers. I go to the antique market, which takes place once a month in a shrine of god of study. I chat with the owner of the old sento (public bath) where he opens jazz concerts once in a while. I go to Japanese sweet shops and restaurants where they present different sweets changing with the seasons. I go to see some meaningful events in temples and shrines though they are not strikingly famous. I enjoy the flowers blooming each season.

I draw the world where you can find my favourite things that I see in Kyoto. It is actually not a sketch of the real scenery it is a sketch of my Kyoto and how I like to see.

Muitos turistas do Japão e do exterior visitam a cidade durante o ano.
